Q: When should I Oil Gard my vehicle?
A: Vehicles are affected by rust year-round. The time of year you choose to Oil Gard your vehicle will not alter the effectiveness for protecting your vehicle from rust. Most customers prepare for the fall and winter weather and road conditions by visiting Oil Gard in the fall – which is smart. But warm weather application works extremely well. Metal has microscopic pores that open in warm weather. This means the rust-preventive compounds are able to soak in deeply and effectively. Think of it like when you apply a moisturizer to skin!. But rest assured, no matter when your vehicle is Oil Garded, it is protected from rust year round!
Q: What if I already see rust on my vehicle?
A: Oil Gard products are designed to prevent rust from forming, but they will also to slow down the growth of existing rust. Using Oil Gard Aerosol, you can spot treat any rust you see on your vehicle between auto body checks.
Q: Is the Oil Gard application affected by wet and rainy weather?
A: Oil Gard products have been specifically designed to penetrate the pores of your vehicles metal while displacing moisture. The Oil Gard products are water-resistant and are not affected by rainy weather. Please ask us about our Rain Check program!
Q: Will my manufacturer’s warranty be invalid if I use Oil Gard?
A: No your warranty will not be void – and we will go over your warranty coverage with you to reassure you! All manufacturers sell rust-proofing packages through their dealerships which are all aftermarket products. No warranty will say aftermarket rust-proofing will void your warranty, and there is no manufacturer warranty that will guarantee your vehicle will not rust!
Q: Does my vehicle need to be drilled before the rust-proofing treatment?
A: In today’s vehicles most rust-prone areas are already accessible by the presence of factory openings. In some cases though, your Oil Gard technician may need to drill additional access holes for complete coverage. This will not void any existing manufacturer’s warranty. Talk to your local Oil Gard dealer for specific details regarding your vehicle.
Q: Are Oil Gard products messy?
A: There are two annually-applied rust-prevention products available from Oil Gard. Formula 2 No-Drip does not drip as it penetrates and creeps into seams and crevices gradually. Oil Gard Classic will have some drips after the initial application as it is designed to penetrate and creep more quickly than Formula 2 No-Drip. Both products are very effective and proven rust-prevention treatments for your vehicle.
Q: What about the plastic components on my vehicle?
A: Some fenders or hoods are made from plastic compounds. It is not necessary to apply Oil Gard to those parts of your vehicle. Your local Oil Gard dealer will advise you on the components that do not need the treatment.
